Seen the film this morning. I'll try to review without any major spoilers.
The movie looks amazing - several new jaw-dropping Terminator models are on display and Christian Bale is (as you'd expect) great as the fifth (?) person to play John Connor so far. There's less of the time-twisting predestination paradox malarkey than usual (we hear Sarah on a tape saying "a person could go crazy thinking about all this" ). Forget the cancelled TV series with the unfeasibly long title - "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" - that doesn't appear to fit into this timeline at all.
<<MINOR SPOILER ALERT>>
On the downside, the plot is perhaps a little thin and not as urgent and nailbiting as in the original "Terminator" movie and in "T2: Judgement Day". The feeling I had was that this might support the view that the intention is to make a "Terminator: Salvation" trilogy.
<<MINOR SPOILER OVER>>
In summary, IMHO - whilst not quite up to the standard of those first two movies - this is a better sequel than either "T3: Rise of the Vacuum Cleaners" or the cancelled TV show.
"If you're reading this... you are the resistance!"
Actually, the more I think about it, the plot was not so much "thin" as just plain illogical. If I'm generous, I'd say maybe the sequels will explain why certain characters - including Skynet - behaved as they did. But I doubt it...
I have it on good authority that it's because those Eastern European chix really dig geeks...? (irony) Oh..damn, it's just spambots. I miss Svetlana already..
