Dear All

I'm sure you remember a few weeks ago we had a bit of confusion involving the Games Club Network (GCN) and the Church, which thankfully has been resolved (I think)

Anyway, yesterday I checked the GCN website for the first time in ages, to make sure our contact details are correct. However, there was no mention of the Games Club - Cannock and the nearest club they recommended was in Walsall.

Worried that someone may have contacted them and asked them to remove our club for one reason or another, I e-mailed the GCN and asked why we were no longer on their list.

You wouldn't believe their reply!!!!

We have been removed apparently because they haven't received -

i) Confirmation of our CRB checks (which I am working on) and ....

ii) Our Annual Return!!

Our what I hear you say!?!?!?

Yep, apparently as members of the GCN, we are supposed to submit a FOUR PAGE return, every year, providing contact details, committee member details and a breakdown of all activities over the year.

Needless to say after being told this, my response was to tell them to ....... delete all our details.

Now I know all about returns, annual or quarterly as I audit them for a living. However, roleplaying is my hobby (though it seems like a second occupation sometimes!) and I have no intention of spending my evenings filling out reports and paperwork, for a body that has no legal powers or authority to request or demand such information, purely for the privilage of advertising our club on their website.

When we joined the GCN, we were inder the impression it was a centralised website, where roleplaying and wargamming clubs around the country could advertise their clubs in one place. I must have missed the announcement where they were appointed the "Ministry of Gaming".

I can just about understand them prefering clubs with CRB checks, as it protects them somewhat in todays "compensation culture". How they can demand annual returns is beyond me.

Now, if anyone feels that I have been unreasonable in all this, then feel free to volunteer to complete all the paperwork they require and we'll let you get on with it. If, like me, you think that the GCN are beginning to prove the old adage "power corrupts" is true, you'll have no problem with us just advertising locally! However, as our club is not a Dictatorship (though Gez is working on itWink) I'm giving you all the choice.

You wouldn't believe all this hassle just for a hobby where you role a few dice.....Shock

Not that I am personally aware of!!

The ideas of insurance and cheap CRB checks sounded very good. But annual returns? Who made all clubs in the country accountable to them? As far as I'm aware, they're just a group of gamers who joined together to promote the hobbies, which I have no objection to. But trying to dictate how other clubs should be run!?! Sorry but that's nothing to do with them!

Nope, I won't be losing any sleep over being removed from their website. Shock

I think if we get our head together we can get the membership back up and just have some fun. We have the room, just need the people.

If you keep your head while all around are loosing theirs..... you are the one carrying an axe.

Had a polite response from the GCN bod last night. He's a fellow pen-pusher and agreed it can get a bit frustrating. Apparently the idea behind the returns is they want to make sure the conact details are correct, as people in clubs come and go!

That I can understand, but FOUR PAGES?!?!?!?

And are you sure we're back on Dave? I put our postcode in the search engine and there's still no sign of us!

Funny thing about the Orcsnest website, our subs have never been £2.50 and £1.50 as far as I can remember.

They were £2 and £1, then we reduced them, and now they've gone back up to £2.

Bit weird that!

How in the name of Khaine and the Dark Lady did you find that page Dave??? I don't know if you've noticed, but the page states no new members and we're suspended awaiting further checks!!!!

BTW, I found Pathfinder core rulebooks for around £28 plus free delivery on Play.com. Don't know what the going rate is in other shops, but ordered mine yesterday. I also use Quidco, so get cashnback anyway.....jeez, I sound like a commercial break!!!!

When we do have some new posters, I will be looking for volunteers who are willing to place them in local libraries etc. And if necessary Gez and I will choose the volunteers!!!!!!GrinAngry
